Weekend Recap

This weekend was quite a productive one at the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym. On Saturday, Brynn and I painted steel around the garage door (in progress shot...why I took no after photo, I dont know...) between rain storms. We also had a great potluck Saturday night (which, again, I have no pictures from !!!) Thanks to everyone who came!

On Sunday we had a big crew so Brynn, Molly, Jenny and Stephanie tackled sealing the lounge (aka the cabin) inside and out, which they did an amazing job on!

My favorite part of this was when Molly and Brynn decided to wear trash bags while using the sealer overhead and looked like the cutest little black plastic pickachu I had ever seen...

While they were doing that, Gus an I did the trim in the lounge bathroom...

AND we put a the toilet in! (Forgive the excitement...it was my first toilet install and I'm feeling proud.)

Coming along...

The space is coming along...so much has been happening here with the help of dedicated volunteers and interns. We are working so hard to get everything ready and have come such a long way. We're just waiting on a few major things that are outside of our control so everything is taking a bit longer than expected (as I'm told things like this always do.) I appreciate your patience and promise you that it will be worth the wait. Thanks for believing in this and in me.

Here's a little reminder of where we started...

This Saturday! Potluck!

Don't forget! This Saturday is our July potluck from 5-8pm. Stop by and see the space and bring some food or drink to share! You'll also get a chance to see the casting show in PSG gallery before it comes down next week. Whoot!

Also, as a sidebar, sorry things have been so sporadic here on the blog. I have been teaching 5 days a week for the past few weeks so my already crazy life has gotten a bit crazier for now! Back to "normal" soon!

Woah...

(Thanks for sending me the photo, Janie!)

New shelves from the ReSource Exchange!

We recently got two sets of pallet shelving from Karyn at the ReSource Exchange and we LOVE it. It got our reclaimed wood "lumber yard" up off the ground, giving us more space, which is great! Karyn also helped us score a whole set of lockers (yes!) which will be coming in this weekend (anyone wanna help move them with us!?) If you've never been over to the ReSource Exchange, you should definitely check them out. They have a huge collection of art and craft supplies, building materials, housewares and more!

Perfection...

I know as humans we are always on this quest for perfection...some more than others... And its difficult, because its so very easy to see the world and the things in it as imperfect. But sometimes, just for a moment, you see how perfect they really are, and those are the best times. I had a moment tonight while sitting out back at the Sculpture Gym...watching an amazingly beautiful sunset...and was so insanely thankful for how everything is just the way it is. It is perfect. Insane, taking longer than expected, the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but perfect. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get to this place. I am so very grateful.

Photos from Process Show: Casting opening reception!

A big thanks to Jenifer Stern for taking photos at the opening of Process Show: Casting! And another big thanks to everyone who came out to see it. We've had a ton of great feedback about the work, which is fabulous. If you missed a chance to see the show and would like to, feel free to contact me at philadelphiasculpturegym[at]gmail.com and we can set up a time for you to stop by!

July Potluck/Info Session!

The Philadelphia Sculpture Gym potlucks are back! We had a 2 month hiatus because May was packed and June was over in an instant, but we're bringing it back in July. Come check out the progress on the space and meet fellow sculptors and makers of things while eating good food and drinking beer! You'll also get to see the Casting show before it comes down. Good times all around.
So save the date and we hope to see you on Saturday, July 28th! Just bring some food or drink to share! Kids are welcome so feel free to bring the whole fam (just don't have them wear anything too fancy...it still is a warehouse!)

Thanks! And progress...

A huge thanks to everyone who came out to the opening for Process Show: Casting on Friday! It was a great crowd despite the heat (Oh my goodness the heat!) I'm really proud of the show and all the artists in it so a big thanks to you all! Once again I am overwhelmed by all the amazing people who are helping to make the Philadelphia Sculpture Gym such a great place! Thank you thank you thank you!

We spent Saturday doing some organizing in the freezer, as it was far too hot for anything too crazy, but Brynn, Justin and I made it look pretty great in there (my brain forgot to tell me to take photos).

Sunday Justin, Molly and Brynn moved more of the studio into the space, which is exciting! Brynn and Molly also painted over the giant yellow square that was out front, which we will eventually paint our logo onto. Until then...
